Ayurveda is one of the world's ancient medicinal systems which is known for its holistic healing properties. Virechana is the cleansing process carried out through the lower pathways by administering purgative herbs. Vamana, also known as medical emesis or medical vomiting, is the process of releasing toxins through the body's upper channels by inducing emesis with the help of medicated drinks. Basti cleanses the colon by introducing enemas made of medicated oils into it. Raktamoksha or bloodletting is the method used to get rid of toxins from the blood. And, Nasya is performed by giving medications through the nasal cavity. Ultimately, Panchakarma flushes out the toxins from the body and leaves you refreshed.
Ayurvedic detoxes are made even more effective by integrating dietary changes in the Panchakarma treatment. The modifications in the diet are made, considering your body type. Though generally, it is advised to avoid alcohol, caffeine, sweets, processed foods, etc as these tend to build up toxins in the body. Besides, the foods that can be eaten during the course of a procedure is also suggested. However, proper water intake throughout the detox is recommended apart from other detoxes like ginger tea. Similarly, following the same time every day for all the meals is suggested during the detox. On top of everything, regular sessions of yoga and meditation are advised to relax the body.
